ABOUT US

Edinburgh Divers was founded in 1953 and incorporated with the British Sub Aqua Club in 1954.

We are a branch of the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC) based in Edinburgh with over 50 members and run a full range of dive trips and training to suit divers of all experiences.   Our membership ranges from Ocean Divers to BSAC First Class Divers, with a variety of instruction qualifications as well.

Most members dive using open-circuit scuba equipment, however we have a growing number of divers enjoying the bubbleless world of closed-circuit rebreathers.

Some amongst us are marine biologists while others are serious technical junkies, and the majority of us fit somewhere in between these extremes!  Whatever it is that gets you underwater, we are confident that you will find at least one buddy who shares your interest.

WANT TO LEARN TO DIVE?

If you have never experienced scuba diving then you might want to arrange a ‘Try Dive’ with our Training Officer -
Gerry Stovin.   You can have a session in the pool with an instructor and kit for a donation of £10 to club funds, refundable against the cost of joining.  Check our training page for more info.

WANT TO EXPAND YOUR DIVING?

Diving in Scotland affords unbeatable scenery and sea life both above and below the water, as well as fantastic opportunities for wreck diving and exploration.  If you learned abroad and think that warm seas are the only ones worth experiencing, then think again!

We organise trips all year round with regular day trips to local dive sites.  We also organise longer trips to the Sound of Mull,  Oban, the Farne Islands and the Moray Firth.  We use either our own ribs or local hardboat operators.

We've also organised week long expeditions to Scapa Flow in Orkney, Shetland, Norway, Northern Ireland and Egypt in the last three years.

COME AND MEET US.

Pool training takes place at the Wester Hailes Education Centre on Wednesday evenings, 8.00 – 9.00 p.m.    All club members have free use of the pool for this session.

We then meet in the Tanners Bar on Lanark Road from 9.15pm.  If you are coming for the first time you are welcome to bring your swimming kit to the pool and/or come and join us in the pub for a chat.

COSTS

Annual Membership is split between BSAC membership for your registration as a diver (this includes third party insurance and twelve monthly magazines = £50.00) and Club Subscriptions which covers pool costs and maintenance of our two boats  = £88 for one year

Costs for new members are £213.  This covers the training pack (manuals/logbook) provided by BSAC and also the use of pool equipment during training.

A self medical certificate must be completed.  In most cases this is a self-declaration, however any questions and queries can be resolved on application to a BSAC medical referee.
